Home renovations and switching out home décor are something that can be an on-going process for homeowners. Just as you finish one room and get it to your liking, it’s time to move on to the next room. It’s a never-ending cycle of refreshing your space, keeping it functional, and of course keeping it stylish looking. So, if you’re ready to tackle your living room with the hopes of modernizing the space, but you aren’t quite sure where to start, there are some effective steps you could take.
Start with the Paint Color
The best place to start when you’re looking to change up and modernize a room in your house is with the paint color. Just by switching to a different color, you will completely transform the look, feel, and atmosphere in the room. It’s truly the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to home décor.
But what color should you go with? Each year, there are always “trending” color palettes for home décor, but that’s not to say you need to go down that route. Ideally, you want your entire home to flow from one room to the next, so consider how this new paint shade would pair with the rest of the house before jumping in.
Add Texture and Visual Interest to the Wall(s)
Here’s a job a renovation project that yields some pretty beautiful results and tends to look much more upscale and in-depth than the project actually is. Adding a thin stone veneer to the wall will add texture, visual interest, add a sense of nature to the space, and really create a whole new atmosphere.
You may wish to do a full wall and have it act as a feature wall, or just a small portion of a wall, such as above your fireplace to create that “grand” feeling. These types of stone veneers come in a variety of colors, textures, and styles so you can truly customize the outcome.
Install New Light Fixtures
All too often, homeowners look past the light fixtures and don’t give them the credit they deserve. In reality, a light fixture can help to bring a design together, act as that pop of interest, and of course serve as task lighting. If you’ve got an old or dated fixture in the room and you’re trying to modernize the space, it’s going to stick out like a sore thumb.
Throw Pillows and Blankets Act as Perfect Accents
When it comes to the accents in the room, look to things like throw pillows and blankets that can provide you with a pop of color, print, texture, and interest. Rather than picking all matching ones, you can opt to get a bit more creative and do a little mixing and matching while staying in one color family.
A Whole New Space to Enjoy
There’s no need to completely rip apart your living room just to modernize it, sometimes, all it takes is a few key changes and tweaks.
