Olga Hirdaramani is the face behind the Instagram account; “Couture cakes by Olga”. Colombo Sri-Lanka based creative is a self-taught cake decorator and she started her brand seven years ago. “My first decorated cake had happened 9 years ago for my daughter for her 3rd birthday. I understood then that cake decorating will be my passion for many years, and I wasn’t wrong.” she told us her story in our online interview. She is one of the best cake designers for her extremely cute sugar paste figurines. She makes baby dolls, teddy bears, animals, flowers and many more using sugar paste. Soft toys are the most requested decor for children’s cake. “I like to try different styles in my work, but most of all I love to do cute kids birthday cakes. It brings so much joy while making the cute character figurines and making pretty pics of the ready cake.” she stated about her style. She also told us; “I am inspired by great artist’s cake designs, by cute drawings from internet.” Last December, she released her first tutorials for the ones who are interested in such modelling. She created her own method for base structure after struggling with her figurines changing the shape during the process or after all parts put on together. She shares the tutorials through her private Instagram account and there are four figurines available on that page right now (bunny boy, bunny girl, girl with a teddy, cute elefant)+ bonus (cake frosting for sharp edges and easy clean fondant cover). She got the 1st place winner in “Cake International 2020”, in the category “Novelty cake”, and in the near future she would love to do more online and offline cake decor teaching, create more cute birthday cake designs.
