Julio Estrela is a graphic designer who lives in a small town in Empordà (Costa Brava – Catalunya ), which is located on the coast of the Mediterranean and surrounded by the Pyrenees, land of wind and surrealism. He creates amazing images showcasing miniature objects that interact with his own hand. To get further information about Estrela’s artwork, we had an e-mail interview with him. He tells about himself and this amusing series as follows; “My passion and obsession is food , I’ve been lucky enough to visit the best restaurants in the world, and work for some of them. My job on instagram is closely related to the world of gastronomy and the territory I live in, Costa Brava, one of the most wonderful places in the universe. I try to blend various concepts such as simplicity, minimalism, freedom, humor and sometimes surrealism to create my artwork which helps me relax after work. Lately I’ve finished three series of pictures. The first one consists of my hand interacting with everyday objects and icons of different restaurants. The other one is the series with a small type of pasta (origanally Italian but very typical of Catalan cuisine), called Galet. I created a character “Mr. Galet ” using this special pasta. And the last series of photographs are about my territory… La Costa Brava. All of them are based on freedom, humor and double entendre. My art pieces are generally clean, aesthetic and a little saturated. I sometimes blend images and objects together to tell stories using my iPhone. Hope you enjoy them!”
