No-Sweat Tricks to Clean Any Type of Floor

It is highly likely that you have floors, the question is what type of floors do you have and do you know how to clean them effectively without having to get on your hands and knees and scrub?

The good news is that it doesn’t matter whether you have the latest epoxy floor coatings, carpet, or even hardwood floors, they can be cleaned with minimal effort.

Clean Often

Perhaps the real trick to cleaning your floor without excessive effort is to clean it regularly. The more regular your cleaning schedule the harder it is for debris and other dirt to build up and cause you issues. Not only will this make cleaning easier, but it will also help your floor to look great and last for longer.

Of course, there are a few tricks that can help to make your floor cleaning even easier.

Check For A Coating

Wooden floors are generally sealed with a wax or polish, this makes it very difficult to stain the floor. Run your finger across the floor and if it smudges you have a wax floor. If not and it feels smooth then you probably have a polyurethane finish.

This makes it much easier to clean them. All you have to do is mix a cup of dish soap with a bucket of water and use a microfiber mop to go across the room. Remember, wood isn’t a big fan of water so the mop should only ever be damp. You can do this once a week and your floor will stay looking clean and fantastic.

It is also important to note that floors that have been waxed are not fans of water, even a damp mop will upset them. For this type of floor, you’ll need to sweep daily and vacuum regularly. If there are spills on the floor remove the spill with paper towels by blotting.

If necessary you can then polish the wax and the spill off the wood and rewax that section.

Laminate flooring is more sensitive and should only ever be damp mopped, there is no top coating that can be replaced.

You should also note that flooring such as epoxy and tiles don’t have a protective coat. They are tough enough without it.

Use the Right Tools

Microfiber brushes and mops are the best idea when tackling your floor. These literally attract the dust and debris, making the cleaning process almost effortless. You can use these daily without damaging the floor and it takes minimal effort.

Alongside this, when you decide to vacuum your floor make sure you are using the right attachment. For instance, if you use the wrong attachment on a solid wood floor you are likely to leave lots of scratches across the floor.

On the other hand, epoxy floorings don’t mark easily, allowing you to use almost any attachment you like.

Avoid Chemicals

Epoxy flooring is generally resistant to chemicals but most other floorings aren’t. That’s why the best idea is to avoid using chemicals on any of the floors, it will help preserve them and isn’t necessary to keep them clean.
