4 Things Tourists Should Visit When In New York City

There are a lot of things to see in New York City, but whether you are staying for a week or a month, you can’t possibly cover all the grounds. If you ask a few New Yorkers about the places you can’t miss on your trip to the city, each person may give you a completely different answer. This is because the city is huge with a lot of unique places and different activities. Here are four things we think you should visit when you are in New York City.

Broadway

Whether you are a fan of musicals or not, you shouldn’t skip taking a walk on Broadway. New York City has the best theater plays in the world as it contains more than forty theaters showcasing different shows every night. You will be able to get cheaper tickets if you plan your trip ahead of time. You can even book a tour on Broadway with an actual actor as a guide who can tell you about the history of the Theater District and behind-the-scenes secrets that make it one of the most unique districts on the planet. From new musicals to the classics, there is always something going on in Broadway theaters. Make sure to see at least one show during your stay in New York. You will be instantly teleported into a parallel universe of colors and costumes.

Ellis Island and Liberty Island

These two islands are the number one tourist attraction in New York City. The significance of Ellis Island lies with its main building that used to be an immigration complex from 1892 to 1924, with around twelve million immigrants passing through this building. It is now turned into a national museum that you can’t miss while in the city. The architecture itself is magnificent with its limestone and red brick structure that was built in the French Renaissance style. You will be mesmerized by the high windows and grand chandeliers and how they remained intact for centuries. This is one of the best things to do in NYC as you can learn a lot about American history in this building. It is believed that almost half the population in the United States can track an ancestor who passed through the building’s halls.

You cannot miss one of New York’s most famous landmarks, which is the Statue of Liberty located on Liberty Island, not too far away from Ellis Island. You will start feeling jittery as you approach the Statue in the ferry ride from Manhattan. You don’t want to miss a visit to the Statue of Liberty Museum, where you can learn all about the building of this monumental statue. You will listen to the amazing stories of how it was built piece by piece and then transferred from France to its permanent home in NYC.

The Met

While New York is home to many museums, you can’t miss visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Not only is it the largest one in the city, but also it is one of the most visited museums in the world. There are over two million artwork pieces included in the permanent display of the museum. You can spend the entire day in the museum without seeing half of the artwork inside. You can take a stroll in Central Park after you’re done, which is right next to the museum.

Observation Decks

One of the best ways to see the city is to watch it from above. Looking at its architectural skyline from the observation decks on Top of the Rock, the Empire State Building, and One World Observatory. You can choose the one that is nearest to you as all three provide a unique experience. The Empire State Building is the most famous among the three buildings and its opening hours are the most flexible so you can visit at night after you are done sightseeing all day and visiting the different museums in the city. The One World Observatory allows you to see the Statue of Liberty and the harbor. If you want to see Central Park from above, it’s best to go for Top of the Rock. It might not be the highest of the three structures, but you will be able to take amazing pictures of the park and the Empire State Building.

You can’t possibly see everything in the city in one vacation. There are numerous historical places and museums as well as great restaurants to try. We tried to narrow it down for you to fit everything in a weekend because you can’t leave the city without visiting these four things.
